Court bars police from arresting Millie Odhiambo

The High Court has directed police not to arrest Mbita Member of Parliament, Millie Odhiambo, until investigations on remarks she made against President Uhuru Kenyatta are complete.

The court further directed the lawmaker to avail herself at the parliament police station on the 12 of this month to allow completion of the investigations.

State counsel Moses Omirera told the court that investigations are ongoing adding that once they are done they will forward the file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for recommendations.

The matter will be mentioned on 17th of this month before Justice Luka Kimaru.

In the case, Millie Odhiambo moved to court seeking anticipatory bail over her imminent arrest following her utterances in the precincts of Parliament last month before debate on the controversial amendments to the election laws.

Millie Grace Akoth Odhiambo, through advocate Antony Oluoch, claims that the Parliament police confronted and mishandled her for the reasons she is not conversant with.

She further claimed that she had been receiving threats from unknown people through phone calls claiming to be security officers.

The MP says that she was being threatened with arrest and detention over unspecified offense.

On Tuesday, December 20, the MP was recorded as referring to President Uhuru Kenyatta as a ‘very stupid person’ during a special session of the National Assembly to amend the electoral laws.
