Court comes to the aid of besieged NTV journalists

The High Court in Nairobi has granted reprieve to Nation Media Group General Manager, Broadcasting, Linus Kaikai and journalists Larry Madowo and Ken Mijungu.

In his ruling, Justice Luka Kimaru has also granted them an anticipatory bail of Sh 100,000 and barred the police from arresting them.

The judge has further directed them to present themselves with their lawyers at CID headquarters on Monday February 5 at 2pm.

The ruling comes just a day after the three filed a case in court seeking to stop the police from arresting them.

The trio were forced to spend Wednesday January 31, night at Nation Centre fearing arrest amid an ongoing government crackdown over the controversial swearing in of Raila Odinga as the ‘People’s President’.

Plainclothes officers are reported to have camped outside Nation Centre on Wednesday evening, to allegedly arrest the three journalists for unclear reasons.
