Court detains man accused of cutting son’s penis over Ksh.50

A Nyeri Court has allowed police seven days to detain a man accused of assaulting his step-son and injuring his private parts over Ksh.50.

The suspect; George Gatura, was arraigned before Nyeri Senior Magistrate Nelly Kariuki, where the prosecution sought for more time to complete investigations.

The prosecution further told the court that the suspect’s life could be in danger if released since his neighbours had threatened to lynch him after assaulting his son.

The suspect is alleged to have vigorously pulled his step-son’s penis accusing him of stealing Ksh.50.

According to the boy’s mother, the incident occurred last week but the boy, a Class Four pupil, had been coerced into silence by the stepfather.

The boy maintains he did not steal the said Ksh.50.

The mother only learned of the incident on Saturday when one of her daughters told her that the brother was in pain.

She raised an alarm and the man was arrested by area residents and handed to police at Endarasha Police Post where he was detained.

Doctors at the Nyeri County Referral Hospital where the boy was admitted said he sustained soft tissue injuries and was expected to undergo an operation.

They further pointed out that as much as the boy’s urination had not been affected he is traumatised and will need psychological help.
