Court Dismisses Barasas Petition Challenging Extradition

In the ruling, Justice Richard Mwongo stated that the Rome statute, which requires Kenya to cooperate with the International Criminal Court (ICC), is part of the Kenyan Law and consequently has to be respected.

Justice Mwongo also said that Barasa did not prove that is unconstitutional to surrender him to ICC, adding that the issues raised in the petition were premature at this stage.

The journalist had appealed to court challenging his warrant of arrest issued by ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda.

Bensouda issued the warrant in 2013, alleging that Barasa had interfered with witnesses in the ongoing ICC case.
