Court dismisses petition against Isiolo South MP

The High Court in Meru has dismissed a petition challenging the election of Isiolo South MP Abdi Koropu Tepo in the August 2017 General Election.
Justice Francis Gikonyo upheld Mr. Koropu’s election noting that the petitioner, Mohamed Tubi, failed to provide sufficient evidence to prove claims that the election was marred by irregularities.
The court dismissed the petition with costs directing the petitioner to pay Ksh.1 million to the electoral commission and a similar amount to the Isiolo South MP.
The MP expressed satisfaction with the court verdict and extended an olive branch to the petitioner to work with him.
“I am overjoyed that the win declared on us on August 9, 2017 has been validated. The petitioner, assuming he had good intentions for Isiolo South, I invite him that we join hands for the development of our area. I have no bitterness towards him, he was just exercising his democratic right,” said Korop.
