Court drops assault charges against UN legal officer

A Nairobi court has dropped charges against a legal officer attached to the United Nations (UN).

Alphose Kambu had been charged with assault and causing bodily harm to his wife.

The charges were dropped after the wife asked the court to withdraw the charges against the father of her kid.

Ruth Gakii told the court that they have reconciled and forgiven the father of his son.

“I understand why I’m in court today, I have decided to withdraw this case against the accused because I have forgiven him,” said Gakii.

The court accepted the application to have the matter withdrawn.

“Having considered the application by the complainant I find the reason given for withdrawal of a complaint as reasonable. Being that she has forgiven the accused who is the father of his son is a sufficient reason,” ruled Magistrate Kennedy Cheruyiot.

In an incident filed under OB number 59/18/10/2015 and reported at 2200hrs at Kiamumbi Police Station on October 18, 2015, Gakii claimed she had a reason to believe her husband wanted to use their four-year-old son for human sacrifice.

Gakii sort medical attention at the Nairobi Women’s Hospital.

Kambu, a native of Papua New Guinea, had been accused of ruthlessly battering his wife at their residence in Jacaranda Estate.

Kambu, works with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).
