Court Grants Prosecution 1 Month To Probe Timamy

Justice Martin Muya gave the prosecution one month and not two months as requested.

 

The prosecution through Alexander Muteti had made a request for a 2-months extension to enable the police conclude probe before the governor could be charged.

 

Timamy’s lawyer Ahmednassir Abdullahi however opposed the request terming it political.

 

Abdullahi insisted that Timamy should only be charged upon lapse of 14 days that had earlier been requested by the prosecution

 

Timamy is out on a 20 million shilling bond or 5 million shilling cash bail.

 

Timamy is facing charges of murder, forceful eviction of population and terrorism over the Mpeketoni attacks that left over 60 people dead.

 

The killings in Mpeketoni started on June 15 when heavily armed men raided the small town in Lamu County where they shot men and torched a number of businesses.

 

They also raided the local police station in the attack that lasted more than four hours.
