Court issues arrest warrant for Isiolo Governor Godana Doyo

A Meru court has issued a warrant of arrest for Isiolo Governor Godana Doyo who failed to appear in court to face charges of corruption brought against him by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission officers last year.

Others who were issued with arrest warrants are Deputy Speaker David Lemantile, and the county budget and appropriation chairman, Abdi Sora.

Mr Doyo failed to appear before Chief Magistrate Lucy Ambasi, even after he had been charged in December 2015 before Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochieng where he and three accomplices were released on a Ksh4 million bond with one surety of a similar amount or a cash bail of Ksh1million.

The governor had pleaded not guilty to three counts of economic crime where in the first count he was charged with conspiracy to commit an economic crime contrary to the Economic Crime Act.

The prosecution said that on December 11, 2014 in Isiolo County, the governor jointly with three of his co-accused, corruptly and fraudulently approved a false and misleading Ksh3.3 billion Isiolo County Supplementary Appropriation Bill 2014 that was not debated or approved by the county assembly.

On the second count, the prosecution accused Mr Doyo of failing to comply with the law and applicable procedure in relation to incurring of expenditure and charged him with abuse of office.

The case will be mentioned on 10th May, 2017.
