Court issues fresh warrant of arrest against NYS scam suspect

A Nairobi Magistrate Court has issued another arrest warrant against Charity Gethi, mother of businessman Ben Gethi, who is facing charges over the Ksh 791 million tender scam at the National Youth Service (NYS) for failing to appear in court.

Principal Magistrate Martha Mutuku issued the fresh arrest warrant against Charity Gethi after lifting an earlier warrant after she presented documents in court last month proving she was ailing.

On Monday, the Magistrate rejected fresh hospital documents she had presented in court on grounds they were outdated as they were issued last month.

Charity Gethi, Ben Gethi and nine other suspects linked to the tender scandal at NYS will now take their plea over the graft charges on August 22 before Principal Magistrate Daniel Ogembo.

The court has also issued another warrant against another NYS suspect Jedidah Wangari after she also failed to show up in court, with prosecution indicating it is still trying to establish her whereabouts.

They are facing money laundering charges.
