Court lifts warrant of arrest against NYS cash theft suspect Kabura

Businesswoman Josephine Kabura, who is accused of playing a pivotal role in the theft of Ksh 791M at the National Youth Service (NYS), has been warned by the court against missing proceedings.

Nairobi Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogembo issued the warning after he lifted a warrant of arrest he had issued last Friday against Kabura.

Kabura, who on Monday afternoon appeared before the court, argued that on the material day, she arrived late in the city from Busia and found that the matter had been mentioned and a warrant of arrest issued against her.

She, however, told the court she will adhere to its proceedings.

Kabura risked arrest after she failed to appear in court last Friday during the mention of a case where she is facing money laundering charges.

She is charged alongside businessman Ben Gethi , Charity Gethi and nine others.

They are challenging the plea taking before the court arguing that the Chief Magistrate Court has no jurisdiction to hear the money laundering case.

Last Friday, the court directed that all the accused persons in the matter appear before it on Tuesday, July 12th. Justice Ogembo also ordered that a comprehensive medical report on Charity Gethi, mother of businessman Ben Gethi, be produced in court.

However, the prosecution has opposed the application by the accused persons, arguing that they should take plea.
