Court Of Appeal Halts Barasa’s Extradition

The Appeal Court says this will remain so until a case challenging the extradition is heard and determined.

The order is now a temporary reprieve for Barasa who is wanted by the ICC for allegedly interfering with prosecution witnesses in the case against Deputy President William Ruto and Joshua arap Sang.

The order by the Court of Appeal stopping Interior Secretary Joseph ole Lenku from extraditing Barasa to The Hague follows a court order for the arrest of Barasa.

The warrant of arrest by the court set in motion his extradition process to The Hague based court.

Justice Richard Mwongo on May 14 ruled that he was satisfied with the reasons given by Lenku for the arrest of Barasa.

Mwongo in his ruling said that there were no sufficient reasons to decline the request by the ICC to have Barasa extradited to The Hague.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, his deputy Ruto and former presenter Joshua Arap Sang are facing crimes against humanity charges following violence that rocked the country after the disputed 2007/08 election.
