Court orders mental assessment for cop accused of killing civilian in Kisii

A Kisii court has ordered a mental examination of the police officer suspected to have fatally assaulted a 28-years-old man a week ago.

Boniface Maub who is based at the Kisii Central Police station, will now return to the dock on January 7, 2021 to take a plea in the murder case.

The suspect was brought to the court on Thursday morning under tight security and presented before Kisii Court Deputy Registrar Dorcas Adede.

The court directed that the suspect undergoes a mental assessment at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital pending the plea taking. he

The police officer was arrested on Wednesday to stand trial after an Independent Police Oversight Authority team concluded its probe into the matter, with the DPP giving a nod to the charges.

The cop reportedly accosted the deceased, Bramuel Chakunza on December 21, attacked him savagely leaving him with life threatening injuries.

Chakunza succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the Nyanchwa Adventist Mission Hospital on December 22.
