Court orders temporary closure of Space Lounge

The Milimani Commercial Court has ordered the temporary closure of a popular night joint, Space Lounge, located along Ngong road in Nairobi.

In a court order issued by Resident Magistrate Margaret Murage, the court ordered the closure of the joint until they furnish the court with Environment Impact Assessment License to show compliance with the statutory regulation on noise and vibration pollution.

“That a temporary injunction is hereby issued directed against the Plaintiff/Applicant, their servant, agent, employees, and representatives, tenants and or any other person(s) acting on their stead prohibiting them from any further  operations of live music, streamed music and or any other music within Space Lounge Bar situated on Ngong Road, Nairobi,” stated the court order.

The court further revoked the renewed business permit for Space Lounge until the case is heard and determined.

The case had been filed by the Nairobi County government as protest to Space Lounge’s alleged failure to comply with laws on noise pollution.
