Court orders Transport CS Michael Kamau to appear before it

The High Court has ordered suspended Transport Cabinet Secretary Eng Michael Kamau to appear before the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Court on Thursday morning in relation to the graft charges leveled against him.

In a ruling made on Wednesday, Justice Mumbi Ngugi directed Kamau to appear before the court and take a plea to beat the time limit set for the court to make a ruling on his petition to bar his arrest.

Justice Ngugi also directed the suspended CS to apply for bail and bond as he awaits the High Court ruling on his request to have the prosecution stopped.

The court further ruled that, if the CS agrees to take a plea, the proceedings in the case against him be pushed to June 9th, 2015 when a decision will be made on whether the case will proceed or not.

Eng Kamau faces charges of abuse of office due to allegations of his involvement in irregular awarding of a Ksh 33 million shillings tender for the redesigning of Kamukuywa-Kaptama-Kapsokwony-Sirisia road in Western Kenya.
