UoN ordered to award Senator Linturi Law degree

The High Court in Nairobi has ordered the University of Nairobi to award Meru Senator Mithika Linturi a degree of Bachelor of Laws Honours, upper division after deregistering him last year.

In a ruling delivered by Judge George Odunga but read by Justice John Mativo, the court termed the move by UoN to strike him out of the December 22, 2017 graduation list as unconstitutional, irrational, illegal, unreasonable and procedurally unfair.

The university de-registered Linturi as a law student for allegedly presenting fake papers to get admission.

The university Senate resolved to de-register him following investigations that revealed that the degree from a university in India that he used to secure admission at University of Nairobi in 2014 was forged.

In his argument, Linturi however claimed that that the intended prosecution had ulterior and extraneous purpose whose pre-dominant objective is to end his political career as a Senator and to block any opportunities.

Linturi further said that he was afraid that he would lose four academic years and a chance of pursuing post graduate studies.
