Court releases a man accused of assaulting pregnant wife

A Milimani Court has ordered the release of a man accused of assaulting and seriously injuring his pregnant wife.

Milimani Resident Magistrate Miriam Mugure said the accused, John Wachira, can face charges leveled against him while out on bond, overruling police’s request to hold him for three days as investigations continue.

Wachira was arrested on February 6th in Kasarani for allegedly assaulting his wife and was in custody until Monday.

The officer told the court that they were in the process of having the victim fill a P3 form as well as get statements from witnesses.

A clip of the suspect allegedly assaulting his wife went viral on Friday with Kenyans on Twitter pushing for his arrest using the hashtag #JustaKawira.

Justa Kawira, 22, was allegedly assaulted by her husband over allegations of theft and nagging.

She said that her husband confronted her after returning from a drinking spree and accused her of stealing his money, allegations she denied.

The assault on Sunday night prompted Kawira to flee and spend the night at a friend’s place before returning home the next day to fresh confrontations and assault.
