Court rules Kerugoya is Kirinyaga County headquarters despite Ksh380m building at Kutus

The County Government of Kirinyaga has been dealt a major blow after the Kerugoya Law Courts on Wednesday ruled that Kerugoya Town is the official county headquarters as opposed to Kutus Town.

The county government had already begun construction of a county headquarters at Kutus Town to the tune of Ksh380 million, a project that was nearing completion.

This follows a petition filed by seven Kirinyaga County residents to question the legality of the gazette notice naming Kerugoya Town as the county headquarters.

The petition was filed by seven residents including Wilson Kinyua, Lydia Wanjiku, Jesse Warui, Peter Karanja, Jeremiah Makimi, Jeremiah Gateri and Njagi Wamuthinji at the Kerugoya High Court, with the Kirinyaga County Government and six other people requesting to be enjoined in the case as interested parties.

Delivering the ruling, Justice Limo said the case had no merit and ordered the petitioners to pay the cost.
