Court slaps Briton with Ksh 70M bond for trafficking narcotics

A Nairobi Court has freed a Briton, Jack Alexander Wolf, on a Ksh 70 million bond with two Kenyan sureties of similar amounts for allegedly trafficking cocaine valued at Ksh 598 million.

Wolf, who appeared before Kibera Law Courts Magistrate Derrick Kuto, was – together with one Kenyans – arrested last week at the Port of Mombasa in connection with a haul of cocaine that was impounded by security forces.

The court ruled that the value of the narcotics was way too high and thus a reason for even stiffer bond terms.

Magistrate Kuto ruled that there were no compelling reasons as to why the accused should remain in police custody pending hearing and determination of the criminal case against him.

The prosecution had argued that Wolf is a foreigner adding that if released on bail, he will not attend court proceedings.

The drugs were allegedly concealed as sugar from Brazil en route to Kampala.

Wolf is said to be the grandson of a colonial Cabinet Minister.

Meanwhile, Roy Francis Mwanthi, charged with similar charges, was released on a cash bail of Ksh 30 million with an alternative Ksh 60 million bond.
