Court stops gov’t from compensating IDPs

The High Court in Nakuru has temporarily stopped the government from disbursing Ksh 6 billion funds meant for compensation of integrated IDPs until hearing and determination of a petition filed in court.

Lady Justice Janet Mulwa issued conservatory orders after the internally displaced persons support initiative moved to court seeking to stop the disbursement of the funds meant for resettlement and compensation until they are furnished with beneficiaries list.

The group moved to court under a certificate of urgency saying that process will lead to the government to secretly roll-out payment to persons who are not genuine IDPs which will contravene the law and lead to suffering genuine victims.

The case will be heard on the 15th of May.
