Court stops suspension, arrest of Kenya Airways employee Gire Ali

Kenya Airways’ decision to suspend employee Gire Ali has been voided by a Nairobi court after he moved to court to challenge the move.

At the same time, the court also stopped the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) from arresting and charging Mr. Gire.

Gire, an Assistant Security Agent at Kenya Airways moved to court on Monday seeking court orders to void the letter suspending him from work until the hearing and determination of the case.

Similarly, he sought orders restraining the prosecuting agency from arresting, arraigning and/or charging him.

Gire alleges that Kenya Airway seems to be keen on punishing him for exposing to the nation a threat to their lives.

He told court the decision to suspend him was made in bad faith and in brazen violation of public interest and the applicant is suffering while as he never contravened any rules and regulations of the 1st Respondent.

He also argues that he is facing imminent threat of arrest and arraignment before a criminal court to answer to criminal charges of terrorism.

“That the charges preferred against the Applicant/Petitioner arise out of an alleged act of video recording of China Southern Airline Aircraft at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and circulation of the video clip on social media on 26th February 2020,” read the court papers.
