Court summons Matiangi, Boinnet over Kalonzo security withdrawal

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet have been ordered to appear in court to explain why they should not be cited for contempt of court for failing to reinstate NASA co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka’s security detail.

Justice Roselyn Aburili ordered the two to appear in court for failing to honour the courts orders issued on February 9.

“I hereby invoke Section 30 and issue notice to show cause to the 1st and 2nd respondents to appear before court and show cause why contempt of court proceedings cannot be commenced against them for allegedly disobeying this court orders made on 7/2/2018,” ruled Justice Aburili.

Earlier, Kalonzo’s lawyer had asked the judge to cite the two for contempt for failing to reinstate his client’s aides.

On January 9, Justice Aburili ordered the two to reinstate the former Vice President’s security detail. She also issued orders barring the government from revoking Mr. Musyoka’s firearm license.

“The court quashes the decision made on January 30, 2018 withdrawing the applicant’s state provided bodyguards,” ruled Justice Aburili.

The government withdrew Kalonzo’s security detail on January 30 in the build up to opposition leader Raila Odinga’s mock swearing in.
