Court suspends gazette notice deregistering Sossion as TSC teacher
A Nairobi court on Monday suspended a gazette notice deregistering embattled Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Wilson Sossion as a teacher pending determination of the case.
Teachers Service Commission (TSC) boss Nancy Macharia, in a notice released early November, banned Sossion from teaching in Kenya.
“Pursuant to section 30 of the TSC Act, the Commission has removed the name of the individual named hereunder (Sossion) from the Register of Teachers. Further, under the law, the individual cannot engage in teaching in any school,” read the gazette notice.
Employment and Labour Relations Court Justice Stephen Radido however issued conservatory orders setting aside the notice, thereby reinstating the KNUT boss back to the teacher’s register.
TSC was represented by lawyer Timon Oyucho who sought to uphold the notice as well as expunge the name of Ms. Macharia from the case.
Sossion’s lawyer, Paul Muite, however told the court that problems in the teaching service emanate from the individual of Ms. Macharia hence her name must remain as first respondent in the case.
