Court suspends new Kisumu County Govt land rates

A court has suspended a gazette notice by the county government of Kisumu that increased land rates.

This follows a case that was filed by a Kisumu resident John Obure saying the county did not undertake public participation.

Environment and Lands Court Judge Anthony Ombwayo ordered that the new rates be suspended until February 24 when the matter will come up for hearing.

The court ruled that no one should pay the new rates until the matter will be heard and determined.

Recently, a section of Kisumu residents objected to the proposed increase in land rates saying they were not consulted.
