Court temporarily suspends MP’s rape case

The High Court has temporarily suspended a rape case against Imenti Central Member of Parliament Gideon Mwiti.

This comes after the victim filed a petition seeking the court to compel a national newspaper to explain how it accessed and why it published details of a confidential report.

Justice Weldon Korir said the case, which was set to kick off on August 19th, 2015 will be suspended until the petition by the victim is heard and determined.

The rape victim wants the high court to summon a newspaper editor to explain why and how they accessed the confidential report concerning the matter which is already in court.

The female journalist is alleged to have been raped early this year by the MP at his private office in Westlands.

Early April, MP Mwiti was arrested over the rape allegations but later released on a bond.
