Court To Give Ruling On Missing Suspect

The High Court will decide on the next course of action after its order to have the missing person, Hemed Salim Ahmed produced in court failed to materialize

The directive came after the suspect's family lawyer Abubakar Yusuf asked the court to order the police to produce the suspect in court.

The lawyer wants the police officers who arrested the suspect together with County security officers arrested and arraigned in court for failing to cpmply with the court order

On the other hand, the prosecution led by Alexander Muteti confirmed today, Thursday that Hemed Salim Ahmed was among the arrested suspects on 2nd February.

Muteti however said that Hemed could have been among those who escaped while being escorted to the police station.

At the same time, Muteti dismissed an application by the family lawyer to have the police officers arrested and charged with murder.

He said the matter should be left to the Independent Police Oversight Authority to carry out investigations if police can not be trusted to do so.

Human rights activist Okiya Omtata joined those calling for the arrest of the police officers.

Omtata accused the police of violating the constitution by not producing the suspect in court within 24 hours

Hemed was arrested during the raid on Masjid Musa several weeks ago.
