Court to rule on Gatundu cop who defiled minor

A Gatundu Magistrate’s court will on Wednesday 17th January make a ruling on whether to detain a police officer attached to Gatundu police station for allegedly defiling a minor who had been detained at the police cells.

The officer who was arraigned on Tuesday at the Gatundu Magistrates courts however did not take plea.

Police sought for five more days to conclude investigations into the alleged defilement, an application that was contested by the defence lawyer.

The officer, Mr Paul Rotich is reported to have assigned the minor some cleaning assignment within the station while on night duty before defiling her.

The victim later reported the issue to other officers who then took her to Gatundu Level IV Hospital for tests and treatment and later arrested the officer.

Resident Magistrate Caroline Makari ordered that the matter be mentioned on Wednesday 17th when is also expected to give a ruling on whether to allow the investigating officers more time to conclude their investigations.

The minor had been brought to the station in the company of her 14-year-old cousin by their parents on indiscipline matters.
