Court to rule on hate speech allegations against MPs

Nairobi Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogembo will on Friday afternoon make a ruling on whether the eight legislators charged with hate speech and incitement to violence will be released on bail pending hearing and determination of their case.

The eight lawmakers pleaded not guilty to the hate speech related charges after spending four days in police custody.

Through their lawyers, the accused persons applied that they be released on bail on grounds that it is their constitutional right.

The prosecution, however, objected to the defence application on grounds that if released on bail the accused persons are likely to commit similar offences.
