Court to rule on Joseph Jowie Irungu bail plea next month

Joseph Irungu alias Jowie, the main suspect in the Monica Kimani murder case, will know whether he will be released on bail next month.

On Tuesday, Justice James Wakiaga said he will make a ruling on the application on June 18.

The Director of Public Prosecution however opposed the application saying the suspect ‘might interfere with witnesses and cause fear’.

“DPP through SADPP Catherine Mwaniki opposes bail review for Joseph Irungu, accused alongside TV journalist Jacquie Maribe of murdering Monica Kimani,” a tweet from the prosecutor’s office reads.

Irungu has been in police custody since September last year when he was arrested over the murder of Monica Kimani.

He is currently being held at the Kamiti Maximum Prison.

His co-accused Maribe was released on October 30 after she secured Ksh.1million cash bail with three sureties of the same amount.
