COVID-19 cases in Kenya cross 40K mark after 271 test positive

COVID-19 cases in Kenya have crossed the 40,000 mark after 271 more people tested positive.

Health CAS Aman on Thursday said the total number of those who have contracted the disease now stands at 40,178.

“I appeal to to the public not to lower their guard in fighting the disease,” he said on Thursday.

The latest numbers were from 5,034 samples tested in the last 24 hours: 177 are male while 94 are female.

Cumulative samples tested since the pandemic struck the country in March this year are 574,712.

Death toll rose to 751 after three more patients succumbed to the virus while 51 patients were discharged after full recovery.

Total number of recoveries is now at 31,710.

“On truck drivers…ni kweli kuna mzozo…kuna shida za testing. Serikali inaiangalia kwa makini mzozo huo,” Dr. Aman added.

On his part, Health Ministry Director General Patrick Amoth noted that COVID-19 has given Kenya a platform in terms of infrastructure to scale the Universal Healthcare Coverage (UHC).

“We are on track to launch UHC..national biometric will commence soon,” he said.
