COVID-19 cases in Kenya near 10K-mark after 278 more test positive

COVID-19 cases in Kenya have hit 9,726 after 278 more people tested positive in the last 24 hours.

Health CAS mercy Mwangangi said the latest cases are from a sample size of 1,403.

“As we open the borders there is a likelihood of increase in numbers. Many Kenyans are adhering to the set guidelines but there is not much that the government can do to everyone adhere to the rules,” she said.

The CAS further noted that three more patients had succumbed to the virus bringing the death toll to 184.

99 people have however been discharged in the last 24 hours: the total number of recoveries now stands at 2,832.

“We want to appreciate our healthcare workers as they fight this pandemic, during this hard times. It is now our responsibility to ensure that the virus is contained by observing the measures in place,” Dr. Mwangangi added.

Ministry of Health Director General Patrick Amoth reiterated that health workers are more exposed as they are at the frontline but according to him: “We (MOH) are giving them PPE and psychosocial support to ensure their safety.”

Dr. Amoth was speaking alongside the Health CAS during the Press briefing that was held in Kwale on Saturday.

Nairobi, cases are in Dagoretti North (37); Kibra (21); Langata (18); Embakasi East (16); Westlands (12); Starehe (11); Kasarani (8); Embakasi South (7); Embakasi Central (6); Embakasi West (6); Mathare (5); Kamukunji (4); Makadara (4); Roysambu (4); Dagoretti South (2) and Embakasi North (1).

Kajiado, cases are in Kajiado East (27); Kajiado North (9); Kajiado Central (4); Kiambu cases are in Limuru (7); Thika (6); Kikuyu (4); Ruiru (4); Kabete (3); Juja (2); Gatundu South (1); Kiambaa (1); in Machakos all the 22 cases are in Athi River.

Nakuru has 16 cases in Naivasha (7); Nakuru East (5); Nakuru West (2); Nakuru North (1); Mombasa has 2 cases in Mvita (1); Kisauni (1); Murang’a has one case in Maragwa.
