COVID-19 in Kenya: 105 more test positive, four others succumb

105 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Kenya out of a sample size of 3,573 tested in the last 24 hours raising the country’s caseload to 104,306.

The cumulative tests so far conducted are 1,269,346.

“From the cases 88 are Kenyans while 17 are foreigners. 72 are males and 33 are females. The youngest is an eleven-year-old child while the oldest is 82,” Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said in a statement.

49 patients have recovered from the disease, 34 from the Home Based and Isolation Care while 15 are from various health facilities. Total recoveries now stand at 85,626.

Four patients have succumbed to the disease pushing our cumulative fatalities to 1,827.

A total of 333 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 1,281 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

51 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 23 of whom are on ventilatory support and 24 on supplemental oxygen.

Four patients are on observation while another 9 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with all in the general wards. No patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

In terms of county distribution of the latest cases, Nairobi reported 68, Kiambu 12, Laikipia 5, Kajiado 4, Mombasa 3, Machakos 3, Nakuru 2, Nyeri 2, Uasin Gishu 2, Kericho 1, Kisumu 1, Kwale 1 and Mandera 1.

Sub county distribution in Nairobi is as follows: Dagoretti North (10), Westlands (8), Embakasi East, Embakasi West and Lang’ata (5) cases each, Embakasi North, Kasarani, Kibra and Roysambu (4) cases each, Dagoretti South, Embakasi Central and Nathare (3) cases each, Embakasi South, Kamukunji, Makadara, Ruaraka and Starehe (2) cases each.

In Kiambu, the 12 cases are from Ruiru (4), Kiambu Town and Thika (3) cases each, Limuru (1). In Laikipia the 5 cases are from Laikipia East (4) and Laikipia West (1).

In Kajiado the 4 cases are from Kajiado East and Kajiado North (2) cases each. In Mombasa the 3 cases are from Nvita (2) and Nyali (1). In Machakos the 3 cases are from Athi River (2) and Mwala (1).

The two cases in Nakuru are from Naivasha and Nakuru East with (1) case each; the 2 cases in Nyeri are all from Nyeri Central while the two cases in Uasin Gishu are from Ainabkoi and Noiben (1) case each.

The case in Kericho is from Ainamoi, the case in Kisumu is from Kisumu Central, the case in Kwale is from Msambweni and the case in Mandera is from Mandera East.
