COVID-19 in Kenya: 4 dead, 148 people test positive as 98 recover

The Ministry of Health on Friday announced that Kenya has lost four more people to COVID-19 as 148 more tested positive.

At the same time, 98 more people have recovered from the novel coronavirus with the Ministry saying 46 recoveries were from home based care and 53 from hospitals. Total recoveries 23,709.

In a statement, 148 people tested positive from a sample size of 2438 tested in the last 24 hours, bringing to 36,724 the number of confirmed positive cases in the country.

“From the cases, all are Kenyans except three who are foreigners,” reads the statement. “105 are males, 43 females. The youngest is a 2-year-old infant while the oldest is 75.”

The cases were distributed across counties as follows; Mombasa 40, Nairobi 32, Laikipia 15, Kiambu 11, Nakuru 7, Embu 7, Uasin Gishu 6, Kajiado 6, Taita Taveta 6, Kisumu 5, Kitui 4, Trans Nzoia 1, Baringo 1, Elgeyo Marakwet 1, Kwale 1, Machakos 1, Kericho 1, Makueni 1 and Murang’a 1.

The four deaths bring the national total to 646.

“On a sad note, four patients have succumbed to the disease bringing our fatalities to 646. Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of those who lost their loved ones,” says Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Ngunyi.
