COVID-19: Kenya records 1,253 new cases, 16 deaths, 11,324 recoveries

The number of COVID-19 cases in Kenya has risen to 89,363 after 1,253 more people tested positive from a sample size of 10,750 tested over the last 24 hours.

In a press briefing on Thursday, Health Ministry CAS Dr. Rashid Aman also announced that 16 patients had succumbed to the disease bringing the total fatality to 1,500.

At the same time, the country recorded the highest number of recoveries in a single day with 11,324 patients having recovered from the coronavirus disease. The total number of recoveries now stand at 67,788.

Out of the 11,324 recoveries, 11,177 recovered from the home-based care program while 147 were discharged from various hospitals across the country.

“This is the highest number of recoveries we have had in a single day since this pandemic struck,” said Dr. Aman.

The 1,253 new cases are distributed across the country as follows: Nairobi, 326, Mombasa 143, Kilifi 105, Kiambu 86, Murang’a 67, Meru 45, Kirinyaga 43, Makueni 36, Migori 35, Embu 34, Laikipia 32, Nakuru 26, Machakos 25, Kitui 24 Taita Taveta 20, Bungoma 19, Siaya 18, Lamu 17, Nyeri 17, Uasin Gishu 14, Kajiado 13, Uasin Gishu 1, Kajiado 13, Garissa 13, Nandi 12, Kisumu 12, Tharaka Nithi 11, Bomet 11, Homa Bay 10, Busia 7, Kakamega 6, Kwale 6, Samaburu 6, Nyandarua 5, Kericho 4, Isiolo 3 and Turkana 2.

According to the Ministry of Health, currently there are 1,200 patients admitted in various health facilities across the country with 7,755 on home-based isolation and care.
