COVID-19 : Kenya records 1,274 new infections, 12 deaths and 120 recoveries

Kenya’s COVID-19 caseload has hit 120,263, after1,274 new cases were announced on Saturday.

The Ministry of Health, in a statement to media houses, said the new infections were from a sample size of 7,240 people.

So far, Kenya has tested 1,409,720 samples

From the cases, 1,205 are Kenyans while 69 are foreigners; 674 are male while 600 are female.

The youngest patient is a 2-month-old baby while the oldest is 97.

Across the country, the cases are distributed as follows:Nairobi 640, Nakuru 93, Kiambu 81, Uasin Gishu 66, Mombasa 57, Machakos 51, Turkana 42, Nyandarua 31, Kilifi 24, Kisumu 24, Kisii 16, Kajiado 15, Kitui 13, Laikipia 12, Murang’a 11, Meru 10, Bungoma 9, Kakamega 9, Trans Nzoia 9, Siaya 8, Nyamira 8, Narok 7, Busia 6, Garissa 6, Nandi 6, Embu 5, Nyeri 3, Taita Taveta 3, Tharaka Nithi 3, Elgeyo Marakwet 2, Vihiga 1, Homa Bay 1, Isiolo 1 and Makueni 1.

Across the sub-counties, the cases are distributed as follows: the 640 cases in Nairobi are from Kibra (72), Starehe (69), Westlands (55), Embakasi West (54), Dagoretti Noth (50), Kamukunji (39), Embakasi North (36), Embakasi East and Mathare (34) cases each, Embakasi South (32), Embakasi Central (31), Kasarani (30), Makadara (28), Dagoretti South (24), Roysambu (22), Lang’ata (19), Ruaraka (11).

In Nakuru the 93 cases are from Nakuru East (35), Nakuru North (18), Naivasha (15), Molo (6), Nakuru West and Subukia (5) cases each, Kuresoi North (4), Gilgil (3), Rongai (2).

In Kiambu the 81 cases are from Kabete (16), Ruiru (14), Thika (11), Juja (9), Kiambu Town, Kikuyu and Limuru (7) cases each, Kiambaa (4), Githunguri and Lari (3) cases each.

In Uasin Gishu the 66 cases are from Ainabkoi (30), Kapseret (17), Kesses (8), Turbo (6), Soy (4), Moiben (1).

In Mombasa the 57 cases are from Nyali (18), Mvita (11), Jomvu (10), Likoni (9), Kisauni (7) and Changamwe (2).

In Machakos the 51 cases are from Athi River and Kalama (18) cases each, Kathiani (7), Machakos Town (6), Matungulu and Mwala (1) case each.

In Turkana all the 42 cases are from Turkana West. In Nyandarua the 31 cases are from Olkalou (20), Kinangop (9) and Kipipiri (2). In Kilifi the 24 cases are from Kaloleni (11), Magarini (9),
Kilifi North (3) and Malindi (1).

In Kisumu the 24 cases are from Kisumu Central (18), Kisumu West (2), Kisumu East, Muhoroni, Nyakach and Seme (1) case each. In Kisii the 16 cases are from Kitutu Chache South (15) and Bonchari (1).

In Kajiado the 15 cases are from Kajiado North (9), Kajiado East (5) and Kajiado Central (1) while in Kitui the 13 cases are from Kitui Central (7) and Mwingi Central (6).

In Laikipia ll the 12 cases are from Laikipia East while in Murang’a the 11 cases are from Maragua (5), Kandara and Mathioya (2) cases each,
Kigumo and Kiharu (1) case each.

In Meru the 10 cases are from Imenti North (7), Imenti South (2) and Imenti Central (1) while in Bungoma the 9 cases are from Kanduyi (5), Cheptais, Kimilili, Sirisia
and Webuye East (1) case each.

In Kakamega the 9 cases are from Lurambi (5), Malava (2), Lugari and Matungu (1) case each while in Trans Nzoia the 9 cases are from Kiminini (4), Kwanza (3), Saboti (2).

In Siaya the 8 cases are from Alego Usonga (5), Bondo (2), Rarieda (1).

The Ministry of Health also announced 5 deaths recorded in the last 48 hours and a further 7 deaths from an ongoing audit of county records which happened on diverse dates.

Kenya’s total coronavirus death-toll has now hit 1,994.

Meanwhile, 120 patients; 75 from various health facilities and 45 from the Home Based Care and Isolation have recovered from the virus.

So far, Kenya has recorded 89,508 recoveries.
