COVID-19: Kenya records 181 new cases, 88 recoveries, 1 death

The Ministry of Health on Saturday announced that 181 people tested positive for COVID-19 out of a sample size of 5,577 tested in the last 24 hours, taking the total confirmed infections to 105,648.

From the cases, 159 are Kenyans while 22 are foreigners; 112 are males and 69 are females, while the youngest is a two-month-old infant and the oldest is 86.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, in a statement to newsrooms, said 88 patients recovered from the coronavirus; 46 were discharged from various health facilities, while 42 are from the Home-Based and Isolation Care, taking total recoveries to 86,609.

CS Kagwe however noted that one patient succumbed to the disease, pushing the cumulative fatalities to 1,854.

The 181 cases were distributed across various counties such as; Nairobi 104, Kiambu 20, Busia 11, Nakuru 9, Kisumu 5, Mombasa 5, Machakos 5, Taita Taveta 4, Turkana 4, Embu 2, Kajiado 2, Kakamega 2, Kilifi 1, Makueni 1, Meru 1, Migori 1, Murang’a 1, Nyeri 1, Bungoma 1 and Uasin Gishu 1.

The 104 cases in Nairobi are from Dagoretti North (21), Lang’ata and Westlands (16) cases each, Starehe (8), Embakasi West (6), Makadara and Mathare (5) cases each, Embakasi East, Kasarani and Kibra (4) cases each, Dagoretti South, Embakasi South and Kamukunji (3) cases each, Embakasi Central and Embakasi North (2) cases each, Roysambu and Ruaraka (1) case each.

In Kiambu, the 20 cases are from Ruiru (6), Githunguri, Kiambaa and Kiambu Town (3) cases each, Kikuyu (2), Juja, Kabete and Thika (1) case each. In Busia, the 11 cases are from Teso North (8) and Matayos (3).

In Nakuru, the 9 cases are from Nakuru East (7), Naivasha and Njoro (1) case each. In Kisumu, the 5 cases are from Kisumu Central (3), Kisumu East and Nyakach (1) case each.

In Mombasa, all the 5 cases are from Mvita, while in Machakos the 5 cases are from Athi River (4) and Machakos Town (1). In Taita Taveta, the 4 cases are all from Voi, while in Turkana the 4 cases are all from Turkana West.

In Embu, the 2 cases are from Manyatta and Mbeere North (1) case each. In Kajiado, the 2 cases are all from Kajiado East, while in Kakamega the 2 cases are all from Lurambi.

The case in Kilifi is from Kaloleni, the case in Makueni is from Kilome, the case in Meru is from Imenti North, the case in Migori is from Suna East, the case in Murang’a is from Mathioya, the case in Nyeri is from Kieni East, the case in Bungoma is from Kanduyi and the case in Uasin Gishu is from Ainabkoi.
