COVID-19: Kenya records 194 new cases, 39 recoveries, 10 deaths

The Ministry of Health on Tuesday announced that 194 people tested positive for COVID-19 out of a sample size of 3,935 tested in the last 24 hours, taking the total confirmed infections to 104,500.

From the cases, 146 are Kenyans while 48 are foreigners; 108 are males and 86 are females, while the youngest is a six-year-old child and the oldest is 95.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, in a statement to the press, said 39 patients recovered from the coronavirus; 36 of whom were discharged from various health facilities while 3 are from the Home Based and Isolation Care, taking total recoveries to 85,665.

CS Kagwe however noted that 10 patients succumbed to the disease, pushing the cumulative fatalities to 1,837.

The cases were distributed across various counties as follows; Nairobi 132, Kiambu 9, Meru 7, Kisumu 6, Kilifi 6, Laikipia 5, Mombasa 4, Kajiado 4, Nakuru 3, Turkana 3, Uasin Gishu 3, Machakos 3, Kisii 2, Lamu 1, Murang’a 1, Nandi 1, Taita Taveta 1, Trans Nzoia 1, Busia 1 and Embu 1.

The 132 cases in Nairobi are from Dagoretti North (22), Westlands (18), Lang’ata (11), Kamukunji and Kibra (10) cases each, Makadara and Roysambu (7) cases each, Embakasi Central, Embakasi West and Kasarani (6) cases each, Embakasi East, Embakasi North and Starehe (5) cases each, Dagoretti South and Embakasi South (4) cases each, Ruaraka and Mathare (3) cases each.

In Kiambu, the 9 cases are from Limuru (3), Juja and Kabete (2) cases each, Kiambu Town and Ruiru (1) case each. In Meru, the 7 cases are from Buuri (4), Igembe Central, Imenti North and Imenti South (1) case each.

In Kisumu, all the 6 cases are from Kisumu Central. In Kilifi, all the 6 cases are from Malindi. In Laikipia, all the 5 cases are from Laikipia East.

In Mombasa, the 4 cases are from Kisauni, Likoni, Mvita and Nyali (1) case each. In Kajiado, the 4 cases are from Kajiado North (3) and Kajiado East (1).

The 3 cases in Nakuru are from Gilgil (2) and Rongai (1), the 3 cases in Turkana are all from Turkana West, the 3 cases in Uasin Gishu are from Ainabkoi, Kapseret and Turbo (1) case each and the 3 cases in Machakos are from Machakos Town (2) and Athi River (1).

In Kisii, the 2 cases are all from Kitutu Chachae South. The case in Lamu is from Lamu West, the case in Murang’a is from Maragua, the case in Nandi is from Chesumei, the case in Taita Taveta is from Voi, the case in Trans Nzoia is from Kiminini, the case in Busia is from Teso North and the case in Embu is from Manyatta.
