COVID-19: Kenya records 236 new cases, 4 deaths, 212 recoveries

The Ministry of Health on Thursday announced that 236 people tested positive for COVID-19 from a sample size of 3,773 tested in the last 24 hours, bringing to 95,431 the number of confirmed infections in the country.

From the cases 211 are Kenyans while 25 are foreigners; 134 are males and 102 females. The youngest is a three-year-old child, while the oldest is 85.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, in a statement in newsrooms, said 212 patients recovered from the disease – 173 being from the Home Based Care Program while 39 were discharged from various hospitals – taking total recoveries to 76,720.

CS Kagwe however also stated that 4 patients succumbed to the coronavirus bringing the cumulative fatalities to 1,652.

Distribution of the cases by counties is as follows: Nairobi 99, Mombasa 49, Kitui 23, Kakamega 7, Nakuru 6, Kiambu 6, Kisumu 5, Busia 5, Migori 5, Murang’a 4, Vihiga 3, Kajiado 3, Kisii 3, Taita Taveta 2, Meru 2, Siaya 2, Makueni 2, Machakos 2, Tharaka Nithi 2, Isiolo 1, Bungoma 1, Trans Nzoia 1, Kilifi 1, Nyamira 1, and Homa Bay 1.

In Nairobi, the 99 cases are from Kibra (13), Dagoretti North and Westlands (11) cases each, Lang’ata and Starehe (10) cases each, Kasarani (7), Mathare (6), Embakasi East, Makadara, Roysambu and Ruaraka (4) cases each, Dagoretti South, Embakasi Central, and Embakasi West (3) cases each, Embakasi North, Embakasi South, and Kamukunji (2) cases each.

In Mombasa, the 49 cases are from Mvita (23), Jomvu (9), Kisauni (8), Nyali (7), Changamwe and Likoni (1) case each. In Kitui, the 23 cases are from Kitui Central (18), Mwingi Central (3) and Kitui Rural (2).

In Kakamega, the 7 cases are from Mumias West (4), Lurambi (2) and Shinyalu (1). In Nakuru, the 6 cases are from Nakuru East (3), Gilgil, Nakuru West and Njoro (1) case each.

In Kiambu, the 6 cases are from Limuru and Ruiru (2) cases each, Kiambaa and Kikuyu (1) case each. In Kisumu, the 5 cases are from Kisumu Central (3) and Kisumu East (2).

In Busia, the 5 cases are from Matayos (4) and Teso North (1). In Migori, the 5 cases are from Suna East (4) and Rongo (1). In Murang’a, the 4 cases are from Mathioya (3) and Maragua (1).

In Vihiga, all the 3 cases are from Vihiga. In Kajiado, all the 3 cases are from Kajiado Central. In Kisii, the 3 cases are from Kitutu Chache South (2) and Bonchari (1).

The 2 cases in Taita Taveta, are from Voi and Wundanyi (1) case each, the 2 cases in Meru, are from Igembe North and Imenti South (1) case each, the 2 cases in Siaya, are from Alego Usonga and Rarieda (1) case each, the 2 cases in Makueni, are from Makueni, the 2 cases in Machakos, are from Athi River, and the 2 cases in Tharaka Nithi, are from Tharaka South.

The case in Isiolo, is from Isiolo Town, the case in Bungoma is from Kanduyi, the case in Trans Nzoia, is from Saboti, the case in Kilifi, is from Malindi, the case in Nyamira, is from Nyamira Town and the case in Homa Bay, is from Homa Bay Town.
