COVID-19: Kenya records 413 new cases, 396 recoveries and 12 deaths

The Ministry Of Health on Monday said 413 people tested positive for COVID-19 from a sample size of 3,489 tested in the last 24 hours, bringing to 77,785 the total number of confirmed infections in Kenya.

From the cases 399 are Kenyans and 14 are foreigners; 254 are males and 159 females, while the youngest is a five-year-old child and the oldest is 99.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, in a statement to newsrooms, said 396 patients recovered from the coronavirus – 326 from the Home Based Care Program while 70 were discharged from various hospitals – taking the total recoveries to 51,903.

CS Kagwe however also stated that 12 patients succumbed to the disease, bringing the cumulative fatalities to 1,392.

“Currently there are 1,182 patients admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 7,142 are on Home Based Isolation and Care. 52 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 32 of whom are on ventilatory support, and 16 on supplemental oxygen, read the statement.

“Another 86 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen out of whom 74 are in the general wards and 12 are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).”

Distribution of the cases by counties is as follows; Nairobi 229, Mombasa 46, Kiambu 22, Busia 18, Uasin Gishu 15, Kajiado 12, Machakos 12, Murang’a 9, Meru 9, Kisii 9, Kilifi 6, Nyeri 4, Kirinyaga 4, Embu 3, Kisumu 3, Laikipia 3, Kericho 2, Marsabit 2, Homabay 1, Elgeyo Marakwet 1, Nakuru 1, Kakamega 1 and Kitui 1.

The 229 cases in Nairobi are from Lang’ata (29), Westlands (17), Embakasi West (16), Dagoretti North (15), Embakasi South and Kasarani (14) cases each, Kibra (13), Embakasi East and Makadara (12) cases each, Dagoretti South, Embakasi Central, Kamukunji, Mathare, Roysambu, Ruaraka and Starehe (11) cases each, Embakasi North (10).

In Mombasa, the 46 cases are from Mvita (15), Jomvu (13), Nyali (8), Kisauni and Likoni (4) cases each, Changamwe (2). In Kiambu the 22 cases are from Thika (7), Kiambu Town and Kikuyu (5) cases each, Juja and Ruiru (2) cases each, Kiambaa (1).

In Busia, the 18 cases are from Teso North (10), Matayos and Teso South (4) cases each. In Uasin Gishu, the 15 cases are from Ainabkoi (6), Turbo (5), Kesses (2), Kapseret and Moiben (1) case each. In Kajiado, the 12 cases are from Kajiado East (7) and Kajiado North (5).

In Machakos, the 12 cases are from Machakos Town (7) and Athi River (5). In Murang’a, all the 9 cases are from Mathioya. In Meru, the 9 cases are from Imenti North (6) and Imenti South (3), while in Kisii, the 9 cases are from Bobasi and Kitutu Chache South (4) cases each, Bonchari (1).

In Kilifi, the 6 cases are from Malindi (4) and Kaloleni (2). In Nyeri, the 4 cases are from Nyeri Central (3) and Mathira East (1). In Kirinyaga, the 4 cases are from Kirinyaga Central and Kirinyaga East (2) cases each.

The 3 cases in Embu, are from Manyatta (2) and Mbeere South (1), all the 3 cases in Kisumu are from Kisumu Central, while all the 3 cases in Laikipia, are from Laikipia West. In Kericho, all the 2 cases are from Ainamoi, while in Marsabit all the 2 cases are from Saku.

The case in Homabay, is from Rachuonyo South, the case in Elgeyo Marakwet, is from Keiyo North, the case in Nakuru, is from Nakuru East, the case in Kakamega, is from Butere and the case in Kitui, is from Kitui Central.
