COVID-19: Kenya records 437 new cases, 8 more deaths

The number of COVID-19 cases in Kenya has risen to 43,580 after 437 more people tested positive for the virus, from a sample size of 4,311 tested in the last 24 hours.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Ministry of Health announced that the new cases include 430 Kenyans and 7 are foreigners.

“253 are males and 184 females. The youngest is a four-month old infant while the oldest is 95 years,” reads the statement.

The 437 cases are distributed by counties as follows: Nairobi 136, Nakuru 66, Kilifi 29, Kisumu 26, Uasin Gishu 21, Kericho 21, Embu 17, Busia 16, Kajiado 15, Migori 14, Machakos 14, Kiambu 9, Meru 9, Nandi 8, Bomet 6, Nyeri 5, Laikipia 5, Mombasa 5, Nyamira 3, Nyandarua 2, Elgeyo Marakwet 2, Turkana 2, Tharaka Nithi 2, Wajir 2, Murang’a 1 and Siaya 1.

At the same time 8 more patients succumbed to the coronavirus disease bringing the fatality to 813 with 140 others were recovering from the disease.

Out of the 140 recoveries, 72 from the Home-Based Care Program, while 68 have been discharged from various hospitals. Total recoveries now stand at 31,648.

In Nairobi, the 136 cases are from Kibra (40), Dagoretti North and Lang’ata (9) cases each, Embakasi East and Kasarani (8) cases each, Embakasi Central, Kamukunji, Makadara, Roysambu and Starehe (6) cases each, Dagoretti South, Embakasi South, Embakasi West, Ruaraka and Westlands (5) cases each, Embakasi North (4) and Mathare (3).

In Nakuru, the 66 cases are from Nakuru West (57), Naivasha (5), Nakuru East (2), Njoro and Rongai (1) case each. In Kilifi, the 29 cases are from Magarini (25), Kilifi North (3) and Malindi (1).

In Kisumu, the 26 cases are from Kisumu Central (23) and Kisumu East (3). In Uasin Gishu, the 21 cases are from Ainabkoi (11) and Turbo (10). In Kericho, the 21 cases are from Belgut (13), Alnamol (6), Burets and Kipkelion East (1) case each.

In Embu, all the 17 cases are from Manyatta, while in Susia, the 16 cases are from Matayos (11) and Teso North (5). In Kajiado the 15 cases are from Kajiado North (9), Kajlado Central (5) and Kajiado East (1). In Migori the 14 cases are from Rongo (11), Kuria West (2) and Awendo (1).

In Machakos, the 14 cases are from Machakos Town (9), Athi River (4) and Matungulu (1). In Kiambu, the 9 cases are from Thika (3), Ruiru (2), Kabete, Kiambaa, Kiambu Town and Lan (1) case each, while in Meru the 9 cases are from Imenti North (7) and Imenti Central (2).

In Nandi, the 8 cases are from Nandi Hills (4), Emgwen (3) and Mosop (1) while in Bomet, the 6 cases are from Bernet Central and Sotik (3) cases each.

The 5 cases in Nyeri, are from Tetu (3), Kieni East and Nyeri Central (1) case each, the 5 cases in Laikipia, are from Laikipia West (4) and Laikipia East (1), while the 5 cases in Mombasa, are all from Jomvu. In Nyamira all the 3 cases are from Nyamira Town.

The 2 cases in Nyandarua, are all from 0l Kalou, the 2 cases in Elgeyo Marakwet, are all from Keiyo North, the 2 cases in Turkana, are from Turkana Central and Turkana West (1) case each, the 2 cases in Tharaka Nithi, are all from Chuka, the 2 cases in Wajir, are all from Wajir East. The case in Murang’a, is from Kigumo, and the case in Maya, is from Alego Usonga.
