COVID-19: Kenya records 602 new cases, 8 more deaths

The number of COVID-19 cases in the country has risen to 43,143 after 602 more people tested positive for the virus from a sample size of 5,618 tested in the last 24 hours.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Ministry of Health said the new cases include 585 Kenyans and 17 foreigners.

“407 are males and 195 females. The youngest is a one-year old child while the oldest is 93,” said the Ministry.

The 602 new cases are distributed across the counties as follows: Nairobi 133, Nakuru 47, Uasin Gishu 47, Kilifi 46, Kisumu 46, Mombasa 44, Kericho 32, Kakamega 28, Turkana 25, Kisii 21, Machakos 20, Laikipia 13, Nyandarua 12, Bungoma 12, Kiambu 11, Nandi 10, Busia 7, Kajiado 7, Baringo 6, Garissa 6, West Pokot 5, Nyamira 5, Makueni 3, Nyeri 2, Embu 2, Siaya 2, Bomet 2, Vihiga 2, Lamu 1, Wajir 1, Samburu 1, Narok 1, Murang’a 1 and Meru 1.

At the same time eight (8) patients succumbed to the disease bringing the fatality to 805 while 80 others recovered from the disease, 51 from the Home-Based Care Program, while 29 have been discharged from various hospitals. This raising the total recoveries to 31,508.

In Nairobi, the 133 cases are from Roysambu (21) Westlands (19) Lang’ata (18), Embakasi East, Embakasi South and Embakasi West (7) cases each, Kasarani and Kibra (6) cases each, Dagoretti North, Dagoretti South, Embakasi North, Kamukunji, Makadara, Ruaraka and Starehe (5) cases each, Embakasi Central (4) and Mathare (3).

In Nakuru, the 47 cases are from Nakuru West (24), Naivasha (13), Nakuru East (8), Njoro and Rongai (1) case each while in Uasin Gishu, the 47 cases are from Ainabkoi (41), Kapseret and Turbo (2) cases each, Kesses and Soy (1) case each.

The 46 cases in Kilifi are from Malindi (27), Rabai (8), Magarini (5), Kilifi North (4) and Kilifi South (2). In Kisumu, the 46 cases are from Kisumu Central (22), Kisumu East (14), Kisumu West (7) and Nyando (3). In Kericho, the 32 cases are from Ainamoi (26) and Belgut (6).

In Kakamega, the 28 cases are from Lurambi (11), Shinyalu (10), Ikolomani and Mumias West (3) cases each, Butere (1). In Turkana, the 25 cases are from Turkana Central (16), Turkana west (8) and Turkana South (1).

The 21 cases in Kisii were recorded from Kitutu Chache South (18), Nyaribari Chache (2) and Nyaribari Masaba (1). In Machakos, the 20 cases are from Athi River and Machakos Town (8) cases each, Kangundo, Kathiani, Masinga and Yatta (1) case each.

In Laikipia, all the 13 cases are from Laikipia East, while in Nyandarua, all the 12 cases are from Kinangop.

In Bungoma, the 12 cases are from Kanduyi (7), Webuye West (3), Kimilili and Mt Elgon (1) case each while in Kiambu, the 11 cases are from Ruiru (5), Kiambu Town and Thika (2) cases each, Juja and Lari (1) case each.

The 10 cases in Nandi are from Emgwen (8) and Mosop (2) while in Busia, all the 7 cases are from Teso North.

The 7 cases in Kajiado are from Kajiado North (5) and Kajiado East (2). In Baringo, all the 6 cases are from Baringo Central, while in Garissa, the 6 cases are from Garissa Town (5) and Fafi (1).

In West Pokot, the 5 cases are from West Pokot (4) and Pokot South (1), while in Nyamira, the 5 cases are from Nyamira Town (4) and Nyamira North (1). In Makueni, all the 3 cases are from Kaiti. The 2 cases in Nyeri, are all from Nyeri Central, the 2 cases in Embu are all from Manyatta, the 2 cases in Siaya, are from Bondo and Ugenya with (1) case each

The 2 cases in Bomet are from Bomet Central and Bomet East with (1) case each, while the 2 cases in Vihiga, are from Luanda and Vihiga with (1) case each. The case in Lamu, is from Lamu West, the case in Wajir, is from Tambaj, the case in Samburu, is from Samburu West, the case in Narok, is from Trans Mara West, the case in Murang’a is from Kiharu, and the case in Meru, is from Buuri.
