COVID-19: Kenya records 780 new cases, 10 deaths and 552 recoveries

The Ministry of Health has announced 780 new COVID-19 infections tested from a sample size of 6,158 in the last 24 hours.

The new infections push the total number of cases confirmed so far to 80,102 and the total number of samples tested so far to 861,102.

From the cases, 754 are Kenyans while 26 are foreigners; 460 are male while 320 are female.

The youngest patient is a 1-year-old child while the oldest is 94.

Across the country, the cases are distributed as follows: Distribution of the cases by Counties is as follows; Nairobi 273, Kiambu 93, Mombasa 86, Busia 85, Nakuru 40, Turkana 32, Uasin Gishu 20, Kilifi 16, Meru 13, Kajiado 13, Kericho 13, Kisumu  11, Nandi 10, Taita Taveta 9, Murang’a 8, Laikipia 8, Nyeri 8, Bomet 7, Trans Nzoia 7, Kwale 4, Makueni 4, Machakos 3, Embu 3, Homa Bay 2, Elgeyo Marakwet 2, Tana River 2, Samburu 1, Baringo 1, Garissa 1, Nyamira 1, Marsabit 1, Kitui 1, Isiolo 1 and Siaya 1.

In terms of Sub County Distribution; the 273 cases in Nairobi, are from Lang’ata (43), Dagoretti North (40), Westlands (23), Kibra and Ruaraka (17) cases each, Starehe (16), Kamukunji and Roysambu (15) cases each, Kasarani (14), Dagoretti South, Embakasi West and Makadara (11) cases each, Embakasi Central, Embakasi North and Mathare (9) cases each, Embakasi East (8) and Embakasi South (5).

In Kiambu, the 93 cases are from Thika (20), Kiambu Town and Ruiru (17) cases each, Kiambaa (9), Juja and Limuru (8) cases each, Kikuyu (5), Githunguri (4), Kabete (3), Gatundu North and Lari (1) case each.

In Mombasa, the 86 cases are from Mvita (41), Kisauni (19), Jomvu (15), Changamwe and Nyali (5) cases each, Likoni (1). In Busia, the 85 cases are from Matayos (50), Teso North (33), Teso South (2).

In Nakuru, the 40 cases are from Nakuru East (32), Naivasha (5), Rongai (2), Njoro (1). In Turkana, the 32 cases are from Turkana Central (24), Turkana West (7), Turkana South (1).

In Uasin Gishu, the 20 cases are from Turbo (8), Ainabkoi (7), Kesses (3), and Kapseret (2). In Kilifi, the 16 cases are from Kilifi North (10) and Malindi (6).

In Meru, the 13 cases are from Imenti North and Imenti South (6) cases each, Tigania East (1). In Kajiado, the 13 cases are from Kajiado North (6), Kajiado East (5) and Kajiado Central (2).

In Kericho, the 13 cases are from Ainamoi (12) and Belgut (1).

In Kisumu, all the 11 cases are from Kisumu Central. In Nandi, the 10 cases are from Emgwen (7) and Chesumei (3).

In Taita Taveta, the 9 cases are from Taveta (5) and Voi (4). The 8 cases in Murang’a are from Maragua (5), Kiharu (2) and Gatanga (1), the 8 cases in Laikipia, are from Laikipia West (6) and Laikipia East (2), while the 8 cases in Nyeri, are from Mathira East and Nyeri Central (4) cases each.

In Bomet, the 7 cases are from Bomet Central (5) and Bomet East (2), while in Trans Nzoia, the 7 cases are from Endebess (5), Kiminini and Kwanza (1) case each. In Kwale, all the 4 cases are  from Msambweni, while the 4 cases in Makueni, are from Kaiti (3) and Mbooni (1)

In Machakos, all the 3 cases are from Athi River, while all the 3 cases in Embu, are from Runyenjes. In Homa Bay, the 2 cases are from Homabay Town, while the 2 cases in Elgeyo Marakwet, are from Marakwet West, and the 2 cases in Tana River, are from Bura.

The case in Samburu, is from Samburu Central, the case in Baringo, is from Mogotio, the case in Garissa, is from Garissa Town, the case in Nyamira, is from Borabu, the case in Marsabit is from Saku, the case in Kitui, is from Mwingi Central, the case in Isiolo, is from Isiolo Town and the case in Siaya is from Alego Usonga.

The Ministry of Health has also announced 552 new recoveries; 468 from the Home-Based Care and Isolation and 84 from various hospitals across the country.

On a sad note, the total number of COVID-19 fatalities has hit 1,427 after 10 patients succumbed to the virus between Wednesday and Friday.
