COVID-19: Kenyas positivity rate at 8.1% as 456 people test positive, 7 dead

Kenya has recorded 456 new COVID-19 cases from a sample size of 5,626 tested in the last 24 hours, marking a positivity rate of 8.1%.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry of Health said the total confirmed cases now stand at 176,137 with the cumulative tests so far conducted being 1,876,105.

“From the cases 424 are Kenyans while 32 are foreigners. 266 are males and 190 females. The youngest is a two-month-old infant while the oldest is 92 years old,” reads the statement.

The Ministry further announced that 7 people have succumbed to the disease, one of them having occurred in the last 24 hours while 6 are late deaths reported after conducting Facility Record Audits on diverse dates in the month of June. This now pushes the cumulative fatalities to 3,428.

The 456 new cases are distributed the country as follows: Nairobi 116, Kisumu 66, Busia 42, Siaya 30, Mombasa 28, Kilifi 26, Homa Bay 22, Bomet 18, Kakamega 18, Nyamira 12, Nakuru 10, Uasin Gishu 9, Trans Nzoia 9, Kisii 6, Meru 6, Kericho 5, Vihiga 5, Elgeyo Marakwet 4, Kiambu 3, Bungoma 2, Garissa 2, Turkana 2, Kajiado 2, Laikipia 2, Machakos 2, Makueni 1, Murang’a 1, Nandi 1, Narok 1, Taita Taveta 1, Tharaka Nithi 1, Migori 1, Embu 1 and Kirinyaga 1.

At the same time 535 patients are reported to have recovered from the disease, 439 from the Home Based and Isolation Care program while 96 are from various health facilities countrywide.

“Total recoveries now stand at 120,894 of whom 87,967 are from Home Based Care and Isolation program, while 32,927 are from various health facilities countrywide,” said the Ministry.

A total of 975 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 4,716 patients are under the Home Based Isolation and Care program.

According to the Ministry, there are 100 patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 29 of whom are on ventilatory support and 59 on supplemental oxygen. Twelve patients are reported to be under observation.

Another 110 patients are on supplemental oxygen with 105 of them in general wards and 5 in High Dependency Units (HDU),” said the Ministry.

As of Tuesday, June 15 a total of 1,138,748 vaccines had been administered across the country.

“Of these, total first doses are 989,422 while second doses are 149,326,” said the Ministry.

“The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 15.0% with the majority being males at 56.4% while females are at 43.6% Proportion of adults fully vaccinated is less than 1%.”
