COVID-19 positivity rate at 8.3pc, Kagwe says 887K people vaccinated

Kenya’s COVID-19 positivity rate is now at 8.3percent after 137 people tested positive from a sample size of 1,641 tested in the last 24 hours.

From the cases 129 are Kenyans while 8 are foreigners. 80 are males and 57 are females. The youngest is a 14-year-old-child while the oldest is 97 years.

Distribution of positive cases by age is as follows: 0-9 years (2), 10- 19 years (6), 20-29 years (16), 30-39 years (39), 40-49 years (24),
50-59 years (21), 60 and above (29).

Total confirmed positive cases are now 160,559 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 1,681,420, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said in a statement on Monday.

In terms of vaccination, CS Kagwe said 887,034 persons have so far been vaccinated against the COVID-19 disease countrywide.

Of these 516,616 are aged 58 years and above together with the others category; health workers 158,168; teachers 137,701 and security officers are 74,554.

18 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours; 9 having occurred on diverse dates within the last one month while 9 are late death reports from facility record audits. This now pushes cumulative fatalities to 2,781.

New deaths by age are as follows: 0-9 years (1), 10-19 years (0), 20-29 (1), 30-39 years (3), 40-49 years (2), 50-59 years (1), 60 years and above (1o).

Cumulative deaths by age are as follows: 0-9 years (53), 10-19 years (20), 20-29 (103), 30-39 years (234), 40-49 years (361), 50-59 years (605), 60 years and above (1,405).

216 patients have recovered from the disease as reported in the las t 24 hours: 170 from Home Based and Isolation Care and 46 are from various health facilities countrywide.

Total recoveries now stand at 109,077 of whom 79,443 are from Home Based Care and Isolation while 29,634 are from various health facilities.

A total of 1,265 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 6,614 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

179 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 29 of whom are on ventilatory support and 110 on supplemental oxygen. 40 patients are on observation.

Another 127 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 119 of them in general wards and 8 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

From the new positive cases reported on Monday, county distribution is as follows: Nairobi 70, Uasin Gishu 22, Kericho 9, Mombasa 8, Kiambu 7, Machakos 4, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Narok and Nyeri 2 cases each, Taita Taveta, Bungoma, West Pokot, Kajiado, Kitui, Kwale, Makueni, Nakuru and Nyandarua 1 case each.

In terms of sub county distribution, the 70 cases in Nairobi are from Langata (8), Dagoretti North (7), Kibra and Westlands (6) cases each, Makadara, Roysambu and Starehe (5) cases each, Dagoretti South (4), Embakasi East, West, Kamukunji, Kasarani, Mathare and Ruaraka (3) cases each, Embakasi Central, North and South (2) cases each.

In Uasin Gishu all the 22 cases are from Moiben. In Kericho the 9 cases are from Ainamoi (6), Belgut (2), Kipkelion East (1). In Mombasa the 8 cases are from Mvita (5), Nyali (2), Kisauni (1).

In Kiambu the 7 cases are from Ruiru (3), Thika (2), Kiambu Town and Limuru (1) case each. In Machakos the 4 cases are from Athi River, Kangundo, Machakos and Mwala (1) case each.

The 2 cases in Kirinyaga are from Kirinyaga Central and East (1) case each, the 2 cases in Murang’a are from Kangema and Muranga South (1) case each, the 2 cases in Narok are from Narok North and Transmara West (1) case each and the 2 cases in Nyeri are from Mathira East and Tetu (1) case each.

The case in Taita Taveta is from Voi, the case in Bungoma is from Kanduyi, the case in West Pokot is from West Pokot, the case in Kajiado is from Kajiado North, the case in Kitui is from Kitui West, the case in Kwale is from Kinango, the case in Plakueni is from Mbooni, the case in Nakuru is from Gilgili and the case in Nyandarua is from OI Kalou.
