COVID-19 vaccine to arrive in Kenya from Tuesday: CS Kagwe

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has said the COVID-19 vaccine will arrive in Kenya from Tuesday next week.

He said first priority will be given to health care workers across the country.

With regards to the COVID-19 situation in Kenya, CS Kagwe said 325 people tested positive out of a sample size of 3,282 tested in the last 24 hours.

“The total confirmed positive cases are now 105,973. The cumulative tests so far conducted are 1,298,838. From the cases 296 are Kenyans while 29 are foreigners. 245 are males and 80 are females. The youngest is a one-year-old baby while the oldest is 85,” he said.

69 patients have recovered from the disease, 58 from the Home Based and Isolation Care while 11 are from various health facilities. Total recoveries now stand at 86,678.

Two patients succumbed to the disease pushing Kenya’s cumulative fatalities to 1,856.

A total of 347 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide while 1,495 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

58 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 26 of whom are on ventilatory support and 28 on supplemental oxygen. 4 patients are on observation.

Another 15 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with 14 of them in the general wards. One patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

In terms of county distribution Nairobi reported 207 cases, Busia 30, Mombasa 21, Machakos 14, Kiambu 111 Kajiado 9, Uasin Gishu 5, Garissa 5, Nakuru 4, Meru 4, Tharaka Nithi 4, Murang’a 2, Kericho 2, Kirinyaga 1, Makueni 1, Migori 1, Narok 1, Kakamega 1, Bungoma 1 and West Pokot 1.

In terms of sub county distribution, the 207 cases in Nairobi are from Embakasi Central (39), Dagoretti North (20)/ Westlands (17), Starehe (15), Kibra (14), Lang’ata and Ruaraka (13) cases each, Kasarani (12), Embakasi South (11), Embakasi East (10), Embakasi West (9), Embakasi North, Makadara and Mathare (7) cases each, Kamukunji and Roysambu (5) cases each, Dagoretti South (3).

In Busia the 30 cases are from Matayos (28) and Teso North (2). In Mombasa the 21 cases are from Mvita (7), Jornvu (6), Kisauni (4), Nyali (2), Changamwe and Likoni (1). In Machakos the 14 cases are from Athi River (8), Matungulu (3), Kangundo (2) and Machakos Town (1).

In Kiambu the 11 cases are from Ruiru (3), Juja, Kabete and Kiambu Town (2) cases each, Limuru and Thika (1) case each. In Kajiado the 9 cases are from Kajiado East (5) and Kajiado North (4).

In Uasin Gishu the 5 cases are from Ainabkoi and Kapseret (2) cases each, Moiben (l). In Garissa all the 5 cases are from Garissa Town. In Nakuru the 4 cases are from Gilgil, Naivasha, Nakuru East and Njoro (1) case each. In Meru the 4 cases are from Imenti Central, Imenti North, Imenti South and Tigania East (1) case each.

In Tharaka Nithi the 4 cases are from Muthambi (3) and Chuka (l). In Murang’a the 2 cases are from Kandara and Maragua (1) case each while in Kericho the 2 cases are all from Ainamoi.

The case in Kirinyaga is from Kirinyaga North, the case in Makueni is from Kilome, the case in Migori is from Suna East, the case in Narok is from Narok East, the case in Kakamega is from Likuyani, the case in Bungoma is from Kanduyi and the case in West Pokot is from West Pokot.
