Covid-19: Vihiga residents to receive free masks as county launches donation appeal

Residents of Vihiga County will now receive free masks from their government. This is after the county set up a mask production industry at Ebusiloli Vocational Training centre in Luanda.

While launching a mass masks distribution campaign to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in the county, Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo assured Vihiga residents that already 4,000 masks had been made and that the most vulnerable would be given priority during the distribution.

Ottichilo further added that production of the masks will be doubled daily to increase beneficiaries.

“We have empowered more technical training institutions to produce more masks for our people. Fortunately we do not have a Corona case in Vihiga but we shall always double our efforts,” said Ottichilo.

More than 2000 residents received part of the masks produced to aid in the fight against the coronavirus.

On his part, the County Commissioner who is also part of the County Response Emergency Committee on Coronavirus, Ochillo Oyugi encouraged the county residents to observe curfew directives to help curb the pandemic.

Vulnerable families who have been mapped by the County Government will receive face masks, hand washes, hand washing equipment and sanitizers as well as foodstuff to cushion them from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, the County has launched a donation appeal for willing donors to come forth and help the county increase its capacity on COVID19 preparedness.
