Crack whip on hate mongers, MP tells NCIC

Kigumo Member of Parliament Jamleck Kamau has called upon the National Cohesion and Integration commission (NCIC) to crack the whip on hate mongers.

Speaking on Sunday after attending mass at Kirere Catholic Church in Murang’a County, Kamau said that members of the political class are engaging in hate speech that can cause chaos and division in our nation.

“Some of the messages coming from leaders are inflammatory and could easily plunge the country into ethnic clashes as witnessed in the 2007/8 post-election violence,” he said.

He further urged his fellow legislators to tread carefully when addressing their constituents and avoid issuing careless statements that can easily take Kenyans to war.

The MP asked NCIC to up its game by sending their officers to the grassroots to all political gatherings in order to bring to book all those spreading hate messages.

He further urged leaders to emulate retired Chief Justice Dr Willy Mutunga who voluntarily left office at the end of his tenure, adding that this was a good lesson to leaders who cling to power even after their time in office has expired.
