Cracks in IEBC after Chebukati appoints fresh poll team

The electoral Commissioners are in a crisis meeting a day after Chebukati elevated six officials to manage fresh presidential poll allegedly without consulting them and the Secretariat.

On Tuesday the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman the seven-member team to co-ordinate the October 17 fresh presidential poll, sidelining the CEO Ezra Chiloba.

In a statement, the electoral chairman appointed Marjan Hussein Marjan as the project co-ordinator, Dr Sidney Namulungu as the head of operations, Nancy Kariuki as the head of logistics, Bernard Misati Moseti as head of training, Albert Gogo as the head of ICT and Silas Rotich as the head of National Tallying Centre.

Chebukati said the appointments take immediate effect and will be for a period of three months.

After the Supreme Court verdict invalidating the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta, the National Super Alliance demanded personnel change at the electoral commission, a demand now effected by the electoral Chairman Chebukati.

On Tuesday, the IEBC said official campaign period officially starts today up to October 15 even though the presidential contenders hit the ground running visiting perceived battlegrounds with Jubilee in Kajiado to woo Maa voters while NASA headed to Nyamira County.
