Crocodile attacks pregnant woman in Rarieda, drags her to the lake

A pregnant woman was mauled by a crocodile at Kowang’e beach in Rarieda sub-county on Saturday evening.

Judith Akinyi Orwa, a 32-year-old fish monger, was attacked as she was fetching water from the shores of Lake Victoria.

“The crocodile mauled her before running with her into the lake,” said Mr. Hesbon Okelo Adhola, Chairman of Kowang’e Beach Management Unit (BMU).

He told Radio Ramogi that local fishermen and other community members recovered her body after several hours of searching.

It was found under some papyrus reeds.

The BMU chairman decried the rampant cases of crocodile attacks in the area, pleading for the Kenya Wildlife Service to intervene to end human-wildlife conflict.

The woman’s body was taken to St. Mary’s Lwak Mission Hospital mortuary.
