Cross-border boda boda operators stage demos over parking
Business along the Kenya-Tanzania border was paralysed for several hours after boda boda operators staged demonstrations protesting alleged harassment by Tanzanian custom officials.
The boda boda cyclists from Kenya argue that the Tanzanian officers have been harassing them over parking space along the border.
The protesters, who operate between Kenya and Tanzania, claim that the officers have denied them parking space which they have used for a long time.
Passengers were forced to walk for several kilometers from the border to Taita Taveta town while those travelling from Tanzania to Kenya were forced to pay more.
The Kenyan and Tanzanian cyclists were later involved in a heated argument, something that prompted the Kenyan ones to block their neighbours from entering into the country until the stalemate is resolved.
Custom officials were unavailable for comment by time of going to the press.
