Crowds stoned five to death on Railas return police

Police have confirmed that five people died on Friday after they were stoned to death by enraged crowds for allegedly looting during chaos that marred parts of Nairobi County for the better part of the day.

In a statement, National Police service spokesperson George Kinoti said that the incidences happened on Ladhies , along racecourse road and the area around the country bus station.

He however noted that unfortunately the incidents happened before police arrived at the various scenes.

The police were keen to note that no live ammunition was used during what the police termed as unauthorized procession and instead only tear gas and water cannons were deployed to control the crowds.

Kinoti also added that the police were aware that several innocent Kenyans had their properties looted , vandalized or vehicles destroyed by mobs that accompanied the NASA leaders urging the affected person to report the matter to the police.

This comes just hours after Opposition leader Raila Odinga landed back into the country after a 10-day visit to the United States and United Kingdom.

Drama started Friday morning when police prevented NASA supporters from accessing Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to receive the opposition boss.

While they did manage to keep them off, once Raila left the airport grounds, hundreds of his supporters were waiting outside and matched alongside his convoy for five hours while braving teargas and water cannons.
